One map always on screen, and a stack of sheets over it.

Pictures marked mockup are from a SwiftUI mockup of the redesign with made-up sightings around Stanley Park, Vancouver. How the sheets work

The map is the app. Everything else is a sheet over it, and the sheet on top decides what the map shows. Sheets stack: opening a bird pushes its sheet onto the list, opening another bird replaces it rather than stacking a third, and closing a sheet pops back to the one beneath, scrolled where you left it. There is never a pile of birds to back out of.

6. Close it: back to Nearby, exactly as you left it

The menu and its children ride on top of whatever is open, and closing them leaves the field guide untouched.

The app today

What the app does now, on live data. The sheet stack, Nearby and the species sheet are built; Search, Rare Bird Alert, My List, About and Support are empty stubs.
